Here is a quick overview on Holland Lops. As always we encourage all buyers to please do your research as not every breed is suited for every family.
The Holland Lop is a breed of domestic rabbit that was recognized by the ARBA in 1979 by the Netherland Governing Rabbit Council in 1984. The Holland lop was bred as a hybrid of the French Lop and Netherland Dwarf.
Holland Lops are miniature rabbits that only weigh between 2-4 lbs. They are typically 60 cm wide when fully stretched as well as 60 cm tall. The Holland Lop is known to be a muscular and well-toned breed.
The average life span of a Holland Lop is 7-10 years old. Holland Lops are a huge commitment given their life span so if you choose to add one to your family please be aware that they are long term commitments.
The Holland Lop is a rabbit that should be housed indoors. We suggest all enclosures to be large to allow the bunny to stretch, binky and be able to move around freely. We suggest all rabbit enclosures to be bigger than 4 Ft.
The Holland Lops are considered to be a very calm and loving rabbit. This breed of rabbit will require lots of time spent playing and relaxing with them to ensure they are mentally stimulated. Holland lops that do not have social interaction and toys to play with can develop bad habits such as chewing on wells and personal items.
The Holland Lop is relatively simple to care for compared to some other rabbit breeds. There is no hereditary diseases unique to the Holland Lops, however they can suffer from other common rabbit diseases. They are an active breed and require plenty of physical and mental stimulation and playtime to be happy and healthy.
Here is a quick overview on Netherland Dwarfs. As always we encourage all buyers to please do your research as not every breed is suited for every family.
The Netherland Dwarf rabbit originated in Holland, hence their name, when five men worked for 30 years to create a standardized small rabbit that would be accepted and available in a variety of colors. The Netherland Dwarf was recognized by Holland in 1940.
The Netherland Dwarf is, of course, a small rabbit and normally weighs between 2 to 2.5 lbs. These little rabbits often look like a kit for their whole lives. They have a compact body, a large head, short face, short ears and large eyes. Their ears can look a little out of place as they are small and erect on top of their large head! Their legs are also short.
The Netherland Dwarf rabbit has an average life expectancy of between 10 to 12 years. Netherland Dwarfs are a huge commitment given their life span so if you choose to add one to your family please be aware that they are long term commitments.
